DANGEROUS WELLS & WELL PITS

What follows is pictures that M & M has gathered that show extremely dangerous wells and well pits by their condition and the things that could contaminate them.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT WELL PITS

***It is important for you to know that it is now illegal to put a new well into a pit. If you have an existing pit you may continue to use it, however you should consider it like a big funnel into your water well, where runoff and potentially effluent and chemicals can enter and contaminate your well. Another thing to consider is that if you have close neighbours, everything that affects or contaminates your well will most likely contaminate theirs and vice versa. If at all possible you should seriously consider a pit renovation. A pit renovation extends the well casing to above grade, reducing substantially the possibility of contamination and it converts the outlet from the welheadl to a sealed pitless. This will go a long way to ending potential problems and insure that maintenance can be done to your well if required such as shock chlorinations and wash-outs. Being able to maintain your well more quickly and safely will save you money in the end. M & M Drilling does pit conversions and they are generally fairly inexpensive in relation what contaminated water could cost you***

This well was found without the cap, it had been hit by an implement.

This well is in a field where crops are planted, this means it can fill up with dirt and dust, but one needs to remember that crops are sprayed with chemicals such as herbicides and pesticides all of which are hazardous to humans. Anyone want a drink of Round-up Ready Water?

Not to mention mice climbing down the wiring in the winter to get a drink of water and then drowning.
